NSCL Professor Receives MSU Distinguished Faculty Award

Michigan State University has recognized Michael Thoennessen with the 2005 Distinguished Faculty Award for his pioneering work in the area of rare isotope physics.
His group constructed two cutting-edge rare-isotope research instruments at the NSCL, the superconducting Sweeper Magnet in collaboration with the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University and the Modular Neutron Array involving many undergraduate institutions. The Modular Neutron Array, funded by the
National Science Foundation, serves as a model for collaboration between research universities and undergraduate institutions.
